Limoncello 101

A bittersweet digestive liqueur, limoncello is best on its own shared with friends. In Italy, when limoncello is opened and its sweet lemon aroma wafts out of the bottle, people immediately recall some of their fondest memories, where their friends and families ended holidays and celebrations with a toast (Salute!) by clinking their glasses of limoncello together. Make more of those memories by breaking out a bottle of Lemoncello 50010 at the end of any of your meals.

How to Store

Limoncello is best stored in the freezer—serving it as cold as possible is recommended. Because Lemoncello 50010 is made from the lemon peel, cold temperatures bring out the essential oils from the zest and enhance its bittersweet qualities.

Choose Your Glass

Serve limoncello in a shot glass or cordial glass. Because of the beautiful lemon-yellow color of limoncello, we prefer to pour it into a clear or crystal glass. Chill your glass in advance by filling it with ice right before serving or storing glasses in the freezer. Chilled glasses help draw out the limoncello’s flavor.

When to Drink

Traditionally, Italians drink limoncello as an after-dinner digestive. The drink has qualities that help you digest a big meal. With all-natural ingredients, Lemoncello 50010 will curtail that “overstuffed” feeling. However, limoncello is often an ingredient in many cocktails and those cocktails can be sipped as an aperitif as well.

How to Pour

Since limoncello is served in a shot glass, you don’t want to pour more than 2 ounces at a time. Take the bottle straight from the freezer to the pour—don’t leave it out on the counter. You’ll notice when you freeze it, it will be thicker and more syrup-like than when it’s room-temperature.

How to Drink

Since it’s served in a shot glass, we often get the question, “How do I drink it?” While it’s up to you whether you shoot it back or sip it, we usually slowly sip it around a table with friends. Drinking limoncello straight (not in a mixed drink) is by far the most common way to drink it.

Share with Friends

Most importantly, limoncello is best shared with friends. In our family, it’s essential at big meals and holidays, like Thanksgiving, Christmas and the fourth of July. Drinking limoncello together is a great reminder of the pleasant company in your life.
